The Cottage is also ideally located for visits to Ripon, York, Harrogate, and the North Yorkshire Moors. Yorkshire's east coast resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are also about 1 hour's drive away, and well worth a day trip out. There are several racecourses within easy reach including Ripon, Catterick, Thirsk and York. The village itself has an historic past with Snape Castle, situated at the head of the village, once reputed to have been the home of Catherine Parr. The cottage overlooks the village green with its meandering beck, and is adjacent to the C14th Castle Arms Inn with its range of fine ales and excellent restaurant menu. Snape Village is just a short drive away from the market towns of Bedale and Masham where all amenities are available.
