The cottage is a great base for exploring the northern Highlands : you are 1 hour from Inverness, 2 hours from John O'Groats and 1 hour from the rugged hills of the west coast. Close at hand, there are walks through forests, along the seashore and over the hills. There are opportunities for salmon, trout and sea fishing, golf at Royal Dornoch or at the other 21 courses in the area (the nearest course to Achue is only 2 miles away). Alternatively, you can visit Dunrobin Castle, follow the Pictish Trail, go panning for gold at Kildonan, investigate iron age brochs, go mountain biking, trace the history of the Highland Clearances or watch salmon leaping at the Falls of Shin. You could spot red deer on the hills or roe deer in the woods, look out for ospreys and hen harriers, see otters at Loch Migdale or dolphins in the Moray Firth. Or take a guided tour round the Glenmorangie Distillery and go to the Highland Games. Nearby Skibo Castle is where the rich and famous go for peace, golf and relaxation (and where Madonna got married) so you will be in good company.
